Overview

Ras El-Hekma is Egypt's largest coastal development programme, and its scale demanded a site investigation campaign capable of covering tens of kilometres of shoreline and hinterland without compromising data quality. Horema was appointed as main contractor for the geotechnical and geophysical works, mobilising multiple rotary rigs, marine access equipment and in-house laboratory capacity in parallel.

The investigation combined intrusive drilling with non-intrusive geophysics so that the consultant could interpolate ground conditions confidently between boreholes — mapping karstic features, cemented sand horizons and the fresh/saline groundwater interface that governs foundation and utility design across the masterplan.

Deliverables were issued parcel by parcel to match the client's phased design programme, each package pairing factual logs and laboratory results with interpretative foundation recommendations, allowable bearing capacities, settlement estimates and excavation and dewatering guidance.
