Overview
Design parameters come from the laboratory. Bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability and durability specifications all trace back to a test result, which is why sample handling, calibration discipline and turnaround matter as much as the test list itself.
Horema operates its own laboratories rather than subcontracting them. Samples taken by our field crews enter our own testing chain, under one custody record, which protects undisturbed sample quality and keeps programme control in one place.
Chemical testing sits alongside the mechanical suite because in Egypt it frequently governs. Sulphate, chloride and pH results on coastal and industrial sites determine concrete mix design, cement type and protective systems for buried structures — decisions that are expensive to revisit after construction.

Common questions
A typical foundation package combines index testing (gradation, Atterberg limits, moisture content, specific gravity) to classify the soils, strength testing (direct shear or triaxial, and unconfined compression in cohesive soils) for bearing capacity, and one-dimensional consolidation for settlement. Chemical testing is added wherever groundwater or soil may be aggressive to buried concrete.
Coastal, sabkha and industrial ground across Egypt frequently carries elevated water-soluble sulphate and chloride. Sulphate attacks hardened concrete and chloride drives reinforcement corrosion, so the measured concentrations determine the concrete exposure class, the cement type and any protective coating or membrane specified for foundations, pile caps and buried services.
An unconsolidated undrained (UU) test measures the undrained shear strength of a sample at its in-situ moisture state and suits short-term stability checks in saturated clays. A consolidated undrained (CU) test with pore pressure measurement consolidates the sample to a defined effective stress first, yielding effective stress parameters used for longer-term stability, slope and retaining wall analysis.
